Whitehouse Burn wind turbine

The proposal is to build a single turbine with hub height of 60 m and blade tip height of 84 m. The turbine will have 800 kW rated capacity and is expected to provide power for around 530 houses. The turbine has an operational lifetime of 25 years, following which the site will be carefully decomissioned and reinstated.

Genesis Energy have chosen the Whitehouse Burn site after considering a range of technical, environmental and planning criteria. The most important technical consideration for the selection of a site for wind energy development is the available wind resource, which is very good at this site.

This website is designed as a source of information on the proposal. It provides details of the location, the proposed turbine model and the construction process, links to the planning documents associated with the proposal and information on why wind energy will make an important part of the future Scotland and UK energy mix.

The proposal is currently in planning with Argyll and Bute council, and we will provide regular updates on this website.

Where is the site?

The proposed turbine would be located at the northern end of Kintyre, approximately 1.2 km north of the B8001 Skipness road and 2.5 km east from the village of Whitehouse. The site takes its name from the small burn that runs at the eastern edge of the conifer forest in which the site is located.
